Owner Surrender

If you need help with a dog

First, thank you for looking for help instead of giving up. We believe in support before surrender — if you’re struggling to keep your dog, we want to help you keep them first.

Our online form isn’t accepting submissions right now

Our surrender form is currently unavailable, so the best way to reach us is by email:

Email: greatestneedrescue@gmail.com

When you write, it helps to tell us:

A little about the dog — age, size, temperament, and any medical or behavior needs you know about

Why you need to surrender them, and what you’ve already tried

What your timeline looks like — is this urgent, or do you have some time?

Any photos you can share

What happens next

We read every message ourselves. Because we are small and foster-based, we can only take in dogs when a foster home is open — and we take the dogs with the fewest other options first. That means we can’t always say yes, and we can’t always say yes quickly. But we will answer you honestly, and if we can’t help directly, we’ll do our best to point you toward someone who can.

If the situation is urgent — the dog is unsafe, or you are unsafe — please say so in your email, and contact your local animal services as well.

Before you decide

If the problem is behavior, medical costs, housing, or a change in your life, talk to us before you surrender. Sometimes the fix is simpler than it feels right now — a training plan, a vet visit, a temporary foster while you get back on your feet. We’d rather help you keep your dog than take them in.
