Foster

A foster home is the difference between waiting and living

Every dog on our site is in a foster home, not a kennel. That is the whole point of this rescue. A dog who has run out of other options gets a couch, a routine, and a person who shows up for them — and that changes everything about their chances of finding a permanent home.

Fostering is how dogs decompress, learn to trust, and show us who they really are. Without fosters, there is no rescue.

What fosters do

You give a dog safety, patience, and a front-row seat to ordinary life. You feed them, walk them, keep them safe, and tell us what you’re seeing — how they do with people, with other animals, with the vacuum cleaner. Your observations are how we find them the right home.

What the rescue provides

You are not on your own. Your coordinator is your point of contact, medical care is arranged through our approved veterinarians, and the Foster Handbook walks you through the day-to-day — safe confinement, introductions, children, escape prevention, and what to do when something worries you.

Two guides every foster should read first:

Foster Home Handbook: Safety & Responsibilities — the core handbook for foster families. Download the PDF (03_Foster_Handbook-FINAL.pdf)

Foster Operations: Quick Reference — a one-page reference to keep with your dog’s care plan. Download the PDF (16_Operations_Quick_Reference-FINAL.pdf)

Who can foster?

You don’t need to be an expert, and you don’t need a perfect house. You need to be steady, honest about what you can do, and willing to learn the dog in front of you. Some dogs need a quiet home; some need a yard; some need a home with no other pets. We’ll match you with the dog who fits your life — not the other way around.

Fostering lasts a few weeks or a few months, depending on the dog. And yes — sometimes fosters fall in love and adopt. That happens more than you’d think, and it’s wonderful.
