Butch

Butch

The boy who got his chance

The rescue tagged Butch on November 5, 2026 — the day he was scheduled for euthanasia at Dallas Animal Services, because his medical needs were more than the shelter could manage.

Butch is a gentle 76-pound boy who was found as a stray with pelvic fractures on both sides, possible fractures in both back feet, healing sores, and heartworm. He is painful and still learning to trust people — but he takes treats so gently his tail starts wagging, and he has already rolled over for belly rubs.

What he has now is a safe foster home and a rescue that will not give up on him.

The home Butch needs

His recovery is uncertain, and he will need rest, pain management, and more imaging to know what is next. We want to be honest about that — here is what the vets have said:

  • The vet on November 1 was hopeful that six weeks of rest would heal the fractures.
  • The review on November 5 was guarded-to-poor on rear-limb mobility without additional therapy, and he needs more imaging of his sacrum and spine.

We do not know yet which way it will go, and we will not guarantee a recovery. His adopter or foster needs to be ready for a healing journey, not a finished dog.
