Magpie

Magpie

She will choose you — and that is everything

Magpie was found hiding in a parking lot in Farmers Branch on August 15, 2026, collar and leash still attached, scared of a world that had not been kind to her. It took hours in that parking lot to earn enough of her trust to get her into a car.

At first she is wary, and if you rush her she might growl or snap to say “not yet” — come down to her level, on the floor, instead of standing over her. When you give her patience, look what happens: she splashes in her water bowl like it is the best pool in Texas, sits on the pool steps like she owns the place, rips the stuffing out of a plush toy with total commitment, then curls up for a snuggle.

She has bonded fast with her foster’s dog — a 75-pound dog she follows and learns from — and with her person she is silly, playful, affectionate, and all in.

The home Magpie needs

Magpie is still learning, and she will tell you exactly where she needs help. New people, sudden movements, and the vacuum still scare her. She barks when she is left out, and house training is still in progress — especially when she gets excited or frightened. At the dog park she runs alongside the cars that drive past, barking at them — so for now, no off-leash romps, even in a gated space. She needs sedation and a muzzle for vet visits.

She needs a home with a yard, a leash, and someone who finds all of that funny and workable rather than a dealbreaker. A patient, dog-savvy home with no young children, and no other pets unless a meeting goes well.

Her training need is professional behavior modification — desensitization and counter-conditioning, structured socialization, and confidence building. Not obedience commands (she already knows Sit, Down, Leave it, and Off) and not boarding.
