Our Mission

Not broken, just overlooked.

Greatest Need Rescue is a foster-based nonprofit in Fort Worth, Texas, for the dogs others pass over — seniors, special-needs dogs, and hard-to-adopt dogs facing the greatest barriers to adoption. Medical conditions. Behavioral challenges. Disabilities. Long shelter stays. Dogs who have run out of other options.

We exist for those dogs — and only those dogs.

What makes us different

We keep placed dogs out of shelters for life. Once a dog is ours, they are ours — adoption isn’t the end of our responsibility.

We take the dogs no one else takes. Our intake asks one question first: who has no one else?

We tell the truth about what we know — and what we don’t. Radical transparency about each dog: what we know, what we don’t know, and what we’re still learning. No sugarcoating, no guessing.

We support before surrender. If someone is struggling to keep their dog, we try to help them keep them first.

Two questions guide everything we do

  1. Who needs us most today?
  2. Did we save the dog with the fewest other options today?

If the answer to the second question is yes, it was a good day.

How we work

Every dog we take in goes to a foster home — never a kennel. Fosters give them safety, patience, and a front-row seat to ordinary life, and their observations help us find each dog the right home. We share what we learn honestly, celebrate progress over perfection, and believe people want to help — they just need to be asked.
