Magpie — she will choose you, and that is everything
Magpie is the kind of dog who makes you earn it — and then makes you realize it was worth every second.
She was found hiding in a parking lot in Farmers Branch, collar and leash still attached, scared of a world that had not been kind to her. At first she will be wary, and yes, if you rush her she might growl or snap to say “not yet.” That is not a bad dog. That is a scared puppy asking for a little patience — and for you to come down to her level, on the floor, instead of standing over her.
And oh, what happens when you give it to her. She splashes in her water bowl like it is the best pool in Texas. She sits on the pool steps like she owns the place. She rips the stuffing out of a plush toy with total commitment, then curls up for a snuggle like nothing happened. She has bonded fast with her foster brother, a 75-pound dog she follows and learns from, and with her person she is silly, playful, affectionate, and all in.
She is still learning, and she will tell you exactly where she needs help. New people, sudden movements, the vacuum — those still scare her. She barks when she is left out, and she is still working on house training, especially when she gets excited or frightened. And at the dog park she has one very specific job: running alongside the cars that drive past, barking at them like she was hired for it. So for now, no off-leash romps, even in a gated space — she needs a home with a yard, a leash, and someone who finds that funny and workable rather than a dealbreaker.
Magpie does not need someone to fix her. She needs someone who will let her come to them — and then get to be the person she chose.
**Good to know:** About 6–12 months old, found August 15, 2026 in Farmers Branch. Dog selective — bonded with her foster’s dog, needs a meet-and-greet with any resident dog. Cat friendly unknown. Knows Sit, Down, Leave it, Off; receptive to training. Partially crate trained; house training still in progress. Needs a patient, dog-savvy home with a yard, no young children, and no other pets unless a meeting goes well. DFW area.
